What Is CagriSema?

CagriSema is an investigational once-weekly injectable combination treatment containing cagrilintide and semaglutide.

• Semaglutide – a long-acting GLP-1 receptor agonist.

Novo Nordisk is investigating CagriSema as a potential treatment for adults living with overweight or obesity and separately for people with type 2 diabetes.

The European Medicines Agency also lists cagrilintide/semaglutide within its regulatory development records for obesity, with the pharmaceutical form described as a solution for subcutaneous injection.

Is CagriSema Approved for Weight Loss?

At present, CagriSema should be described as an investigational medicine, not as an established commercially authorised European weight-loss product.

Novo Nordisk states that once-weekly CagriSema is being investigated through its Phase 3 clinical development programmes. The company submitted CagriSema for weight management to the US FDA in December 2025, while European regulatory development activity is also ongoing.

This is the principal difference between CagriSema and semaglutide-only medicines.

Semaglutide already has authorised European weight-management products such as Wegovy, whereas CagriSema remains under development.

Is CagriSema the Same as Wegovy?

No.

Although both involve semaglutide, they are different treatments.

Wegovy contains semaglutide alone and is an authorised weight-management medicine in the European Union.

CagriSema combines semaglutide with cagrilintide and remains an investigational combination medicine.

Patients should not assume that the indications, doses, safety profile or regulatory status of Wegovy automatically apply to CagriSema.

Is CagriSema the Same as Mounjaro?

No.

CagriSema and Mounjaro use different active ingredients and different mechanisms.

CagriSema combines cagrilintide and semaglutide, targeting amylin and GLP-1 pathways.

Mounjaro contains tirzepatide, which acts as a dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist.

They should therefore be treated as separate medicines rather than interchangeable products.

Who Is CagriSema Being Studied For?

Novo Nordisk’s Phase 3 development programme is investigating CagriSema in adults with overweight or obesity, while its REIMAGINE programme investigates the medicine in adults with type 2 diabetes.

Semaglutide and other GLP-1 receptor agonists are known to commonly cause gastrointestinal effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and constipation, but the eventual authorised CagriSema safety information must be based on the final regulatory assessment rather than simply copied from semaglutide products.

Anyone participating in a legitimate clinical trial should follow the instructions and safety monitoring provided by the study team.

Can I Buy CagriSema Online?

Consumers should be particularly cautious about websites claiming to sell CagriSema while it remains an investigational medicine.

Until a medicine has received the necessary regulatory authorisation and can legally be supplied in a particular country, it should not be treated like an ordinary commercially available weight-loss injection.
